The fine print, gently

Terms of Use

The plain-language agreement between you and Reflectar.

In a nutshell

Reflectar is a gentle app for making and keeping small poems. The Reflectars you make are yours. It runs without an account, and your moments stay on your device and in your own iCloud. Credits and Reflectar+ are billed by Apple, and you can cancel anytime. Poems, restyles, and music are made with AI, so they can surprise you and are not guaranteed to be perfect or unique. Reflectar is for reflection and enjoyment, not professional advice.

Last updated: 18 June 2026. These terms apply when you download or use Reflectar.

Agreement to these terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Reflectar app ("Reflectar" or "the app"), or by using the Reflectar website at reflectar.app ("the website"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app or the website.

Reflectar is made and operated by Dean Chew, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us", "our").

Who can use Reflectar

You must be at least 13 years old, or 16 in the EEA, or the minimum age of digital consent where you live, to use Reflectar. If you are under 18, please use it with the knowledge and permission of a parent or guardian.

What Reflectar is

Reflectar is a calm, creative keepsake app. You point your phone at a scene, take a few breaths, and Reflectar writes you a short poem inspired by what it sees, which you can arrange, restyle, set to music, keep, and share.

Reflectar is for reflection and enjoyment. It is not a medical device, a therapy service, or a substitute for professional mental health, medical, or other advice. If you are struggling or need support, please reach out to a qualified professional or a local support service.

Your account and your content

Reflectar does not need an account. There is no sign-up, login, or password. The Reflectars you make, and the moments behind them, are stored on your device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud. For more on this, see our Privacy Policy.

The Reflectars you create are yours. We do not claim ownership of them. To run the app's features for you (for example, generating a poem, a restyle, or music from your scene), you give us and our service providers a limited licence to process your input and return the result to you. We do not use your Reflectars to train AI models, and we do not publish them. The one exception is if you enter a Reflectar into the #Reflectar Contest, where separate contest rules apply (see below).

You are responsible for keeping your device and iCloud secure. We are not responsible for content lost through device loss, damage, theft, or software issues, so please keep anything you treasure backed up.

Credits and Reflectar+

Reflectar includes a free monthly allowance of credits, so you can make beautiful Reflectars without ever paying. Some actions, such as restyles (transforms) and AI music, use credits.

Reflectar+ is an optional subscription that opens things up: it doubles your monthly credits, makes captures free, halves the credit cost of transforms and music, removes watermarks, and unlocks every poem theme along with dark mode and extra app themes.

Reflectar+ (auto-renewing)

  • Monthly: $9.99 USD per month, auto-renewing monthly (or the local equivalent).
  • Yearly: $99.99 USD per year, auto-renewing yearly (or the local equivalent).

All purchases are processed and managed by Apple through the App Store. We never see, collect, or store your payment or billing details.

Credits

Credits are a feature within the app, not a stored-value product or currency. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged, transferred, or redeemed for money, and are for use inside Reflectar only. Monthly credits refresh each period and do not roll over unless the app states otherwise.

Billing and renewal

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
  • Your Apple ID is charged within 24 hours before each renewal.
  • You can manage or cancel anytime in Settings, under Apple ID, then Subscriptions.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by Apple under their policies. We cannot issue refunds directly. To request one, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Price changes

We may change pricing in the future. Any change applies to the next billing period, and Apple will notify existing subscribers in advance of a price increase, in line with App Store rules.

AI-generated content

Reflectar's poems, restyles, and music are generated using artificial intelligence, including third-party AI providers described in our Privacy Policy. Because of how AI works:

  • Output can be unexpected, imperfect, or occasionally odd, and similar scenes may produce different results.
  • We cannot guarantee that any poem, image, or piece of music is accurate, original, or unique to you. Similar output may be produced for others.
  • You are responsible for how you use and share what you make, and for making sure it is lawful and respectful of others.
  • Please do not point Reflectar at, or feed it, content that is unlawful, infringing, hateful, or that captures other people without their consent.

To the extent we are able to pass them on, any rights we hold in the output of a Reflectar are yours to keep and use for personal purposes. Some third-party AI providers apply their own terms to generated content, and where those apply, you agree to them too.

Acceptable use

Please use Reflectar and the website lawfully and kindly. You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or try to extract the source code of the app.
  • Copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the app or its content, except as these terms allow.
  • Use the app or website for any unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or infringing purpose.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or try to compromise the app, the website, or the systems behind them.
  • Remove or obscure any copyright, trademark, or ownership notices.
  • Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the website or extract its content.

Intellectual property

The Reflectar name, logo, branding, app and website design, icons, animations, written copy, and other materials are owned by Dean Chew or used under licence. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Reflectar for your own personal, non-commercial enjoyment, in line with these terms and Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement.

The #Reflectar Contest

From time to time we may run the #Reflectar Contest. If you choose to enter, separate contest rules apply, including a limited licence for us to show your entry as part of the contest and its promotion. Entering is always optional. See the contest rules for details.

Website content

The website is for general information and to share what Reflectar is about. We try to keep it accurate, but we do not guarantee it is complete, current, or error-free. Screenshots, mockups, and examples are illustrative, and the app's final design and features may differ from what is shown.

A gentle note on wellbeing

Reflectar is meant to be a soft, pleasant minute in your day. It is not therapy, counselling, or medical care, and it is not designed to diagnose, treat, or manage any condition. If something you make brings up difficult feelings, or you are going through a hard time, please talk to someone you trust or a qualified professional.

Availability and updates

We aim to keep Reflectar working well, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may update, change, or retire features, release updates that change how things work, or pause the service for maintenance. We are not obliged to provide support or updates, though we genuinely try to look after the app.

Third-party services

Reflectar relies on services from Apple (including the App Store and iCloud) and on third-party AI providers for generating poems, restyles, and music. Your use of those is also subject to their own terms, and we are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or behaviour of third-party services. Our Privacy Policy explains which third parties are involved.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • Reflectar and the website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
  • We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for any particular purpose.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app or website, or from anything you make with it.
  • Our total liability for any claim relating to these terms will not exceed the amount you paid us (through Apple) for Reflectar in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable UK law. If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these terms do not affect.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Dean Chew from any claims, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the app or website, your breach of these terms, or your breach of any applicable law.

Ending your use

You can stop using Reflectar at any time by deleting the app. Removing it deletes the Reflectars stored on that device; anything you backed up to iCloud follows your iCloud settings.

We may limit or end your access to the app or its features if we reasonably believe you have broken these terms. The sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, indemnification, and governing law continue to apply after you stop using Reflectar.

The contact form

If you use the contact form on our website, it may use Google reCAPTCHA to prevent spam and abuse, in which case Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. Please only share what is needed to answer your question. Subscription and billing matters are handled by Apple and cannot be resolved by us. We do not respond to sponsored-post, paid-placement, guest-post, or link-exchange requests sent through the form.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will note it here or in the app, and the "Last updated" date above will always show the current version. Continuing to use Reflectar after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you may also have the protection of the mandatory laws and courts of your home country.

Severability

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that part will be limited or removed to the smallest extent necessary, and the rest will stay in full effect.
