In a nutshell
No account. Your Reflectars live on your device and your own iCloud, never our servers. We don't sell your data. Any website analytics are anonymous and only run with your consent.
This policy explains what Reflectar (“we”, “us”) does with information when you use the Reflectar iOS app and this website. We've kept it plain. If anything is unclear, please get in touch.
No account, no sign-up
You don't create an account to use Reflectar. Behind the scenes, your device is identified only by an anonymous device ID: a random identifier (UUID) stored securely in your device's Keychain. We don't collect your name, email address, or a password.
Camera
Reflectar uses your camera to capture the scene you choose to frame, the heart of the app. That photo stays on your device, and is sent to our AI providers so they can write your poem or restyle the image (see AI processing). We don't store your photos on our servers.
Location (optional)
If you allow it, Reflectar uses your location only while you're using the app, and only to tag a Polaroid with the name of the place you made it. The place name is computed on your device. It's entirely optional. Skip it and your Polaroids simply won't show a place. We never send your location to our servers.
Purchases
Credits and Reflectar+ are bought through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple processes the payment, so we never see your card details. We keep an anonymous record of a transaction so we can grant the credits you bought, tied only to your anonymous device ID.
Anonymous usage data
To understand which parts of the app are useful and make Reflectar better, we log how features are used, for example which poem theme, transform, or music option was chosen. This is collected with no identifier and is never linked to you as a person.
AI processing (third parties)
Poems and image restyles are generated using OpenAI; music is generated using ElevenLabs. To produce your result, the image and/or text prompt you create is sent to these providers and processed subject to their terms. We send no identifying information about you with these requests.
Your content & iCloud
Your Reflectars (the photos, poems, and music you make) are stored on your device and backed up to your own private iCloud (Apple's CloudKit) under your Apple ID. They are never stored on our servers. That data lives in your Apple account, and you control it.
Service providers
- Apple: the App Store, in-app payments, and iCloud storage of your content.
- Cloudflare: backend infrastructure that helps the app talk to the AI providers.
- OpenAI: poem writing and image restyling.
- ElevenLabs: music generation.
- Website only: Google Analytics (anonymized), with cookie consent. See below.
Cookies & this website
This website uses Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used. It runs under Google Consent Mode v2, so analytics storage is denied by default until consent is given. We collect no personal data through it, and we do not sell or share it.
If you visit from a region that requires explicit opt-in (the EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, or Brazil), a banner asks before any analytics cookies are set. Elsewhere, analytics is enabled by default; either way you can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. The app itself uses no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your rights (GDPR · UK GDPR · CCPA)
You have the right to access, correct, and delete your information. Because Reflectar holds so little, and nothing that identifies you, most of this is in your hands already:
- You can delete your anonymous account and credits any time in the app: Settings → “Delete my anonymous account & credits”.
- Your content lives in your own iCloud, which you manage through your Apple ID.
- To exercise any other right, just send us a message and we'll help.
Data retention
Anonymous account and credit data is kept while you use the app and is deleted on request (or when you delete it in Settings). Anonymous usage logs are retained to help us improve the app.
Children
Reflectar is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Reflectar handles your information, we'll update this page and note any material changes here.
